Graduated Drivers License Program
Michigan's graduated licensing program for teen drivers (up to age 18).

- Student must be 14 years 8 months before class date
- 24 hours class time
- 6 hours driving time with 4 hours observation time
Level 1 License Requirements
- Segment 1 Certificate
- Certified Birth Certificate
- Social Security Number
- Permanent Legal Presence / Identity
- Identity Verification
- Proof of Michigan Residency
- Parent Signature
- Pass vision screening
- Make an appointment at SOS
- $25 fee for license
Segment Two Requirements
- 30 hours minimum driving (2 night time hours) in log — bring first night of class
- Held Level 1 License minimum 3 months — bring first night of class
- 6 hours classroom driver education instruction
Road Test Requirements
- Completed Segment Two
- 50 hours minimum driving (10 night time hours) in log
- Held Level 1 License minimum of 6 months
- Fee for test
Level 2 License Requirements
- Teen is at least 16 years old
- Meet physical & medical licensing standards
- Held Level 1 License for minimum 6 months
- Completed Segment 1 & 2 Driver's Education
- Passed road skill test
- Completed minimum 50 hours driving (10 hrs night time)
- Must be violation & suspension free 90 days prior to application
- No fee for license
Level 3 License Requirements
- Teen is at least 17 years old
- Held Level 2 License minimum 6 months
- Violation, suspension free & no at-fault accidents for 12 consecutive months
- No fee for license
